Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she was attracted to the new movie version of Red Riding Hood because it has a really dark outlook.

Speaking to the Herald Scotland, she admitted she prefers stories with a twisted nature to romcoms, despite her filmography including Letters to Juliet and Mamma Mia!.

"I like it when you have to wrap your head around things. I don't like blood and guts but I do like the messed up," the actress commented.

Part of Hollywood was converted into a storybook village this week as the premiere of Red Riding Hood rolled into LA.

The film's stars Amanda Seyfried and Gary Oldman headed to the Chinese Theatre for the screening, while Jim Henson Studios nearby was decorated to look like something out of a fairy story.

Oldman seemed impressed, telling the Hollywood Reporter: "They really pulled the stops out."

The Isle of Wight will be transformed into a mecca for lovers of fairy tale fancy dress this weekend, as Bestival is taking place.

Known for its emphasis on fun and fancy dress as well as cutting-edge music, the annual four-day event has chosen "fantasy" as its costume theme this year.
