They may not look it, but the Mr Men and Little Miss characters have now turned 40.

Mr Tickle was the first of the cartoons created by Roger Hargreaves in 1971 in response to a question from his son Adam.

As they sat around the breakfast table, the then six-year-old asked his father what a tickle looks like.

Suddenly inspired, Roger went off and drew a little orange creature with strangely long arms and wrote a little story to go with him.

Sesame Street to welcome scores of celebs for 42nd season

It has been announced that the 42nd season of Sesame Street is to feature a guest list of celebs that would put a Hollywood awards night to shame.

A press release from the producers states that Nicole Kidman, Robin Williams, Liev Schreiber, Amy Adams, Seth Rogan, Sofia Vergara, Naomi Watts and Mila Kunis are all to go along and take part in sketches with the programme's equally famous characters.

There will also be plenty more sports stars and musicians popping up

Plans are afoot to turn what was once a stately home into a centre for children's literature based on the Peter Pan story.

JM Barrie's childhood pal Stuart Gordon lived at Mont Brae in Dumfries and the author regularly went there after school to play with his friends, something he wrote about later in life.

Police in Nottinghamshire were left red-faced recently, after smashing a car window to rescue a baby – only to find it was actually a doll.

Chanel Cristofis, five, had received the Reborn toy for her birthday and would leave it in her dad's car while she went to school and he went to work at a local chippy.
