Witch fancy dress could fit in at Discworld Convention

Should you be in the Birmingham area with nothing to do this weekend, you could don a witch fancy dress costume and head along to the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.

That's because the venue is playing host to the Discworld Convention, which this year has the theme 'The Thing and the Whole of the Thing'.

Halloween fancy dress – time to roll out the Saw costumes again

The Saw franchise has become something of a failsafe for Halloween fancy dress – there's just so many of those films!

This year is no different, thanks to the forthcoming arrival of Saw 3D (aka Saw VII) in cinemas, as well as the computer game based on the blood-and-guts flicks, which will hit stores in time for October 31st.

Teacher wears historical fancy dress to bring art to life

A teacher has revealed how he brings the history of art to life – by wearing historical fancy dress.

Neil McGregor, who works for Doncaster Council's museums service, told the South Yorkshire Star he often dresses up as the artists featured within his lessons, as it helps the pupils to remember things.

"In the past I've dressed up as Van Gogh, Monet and Turner," he commented.

This summer's theme is the impressionist Edgar Degas, which requires a Mr Benn-style bowler hat and suit as well as a beard.

Dracula fancy dress more popular than Twilight this Halloween?

It sounds unlikely, but Dracula fancy dress may prove to be more popular than Twilight costumes this October 31st.

A new poll carried out by sci-fi magazine SFX has seen the Transylvanian count voted as the top screen vampire of all-time, beating all the young bloodsuckers we are seeing on our screens at present.

Second place went to Spike from Buffy the Vampire slayer, while Angel from the same programme managed third position.
