It's common for dog owners to want something to remember their pooch by when they are no longer with them.
A photograph printed on to a plate, for instance, or a little memorial stone in their garden.
However, trinket maker Jackie Kaufman from the US has come up with a novel way of ensuring that Fido is never forgotten – by printing his nose on jewellery.
She explained that she has been making silver charms for years using footprints, asking dog owners to send clay casts of their dog's footsteps and then casting them in the precious metal.
However, when she sent out the materials to a lady in Canada one day, they came back with a print of her dog's nose instead – and Ms Kaufman realised it was a great idea.
Now, she makes everything from rings and belt buckles to necklaces out of them, charging between £90 and £320 a pop.
"I have sold over 1,700 pieces. Each dog nose is different, just like the fingerprint of a person," the craftswoman commented.
However, she warned anyone hoping to get a piece of jewellery this way that the cast must only be on the animal's nose for a few seconds to avoid distress.
One famous face who could be getting in touch with Ms Kaufman is Robbie Williams. A source told the Mirror that he is so smitten with his eight dogs that he had some bespoke steps created so they could get up on to his bed to sleep with him and his wife Ayda Field.
"Rob couldn't stand having them sleep in another room – or, worse, outside. But some of the dogs are quite small – the Bichon Frise pup, particularly – and Robbie's king-size bed is huge," the friend commented.
"Now the whole family sleeps together."
